The proposed European Union laws on cross-border trade are expected to inflict significant damage on online sales and it may cause legal chaos. UK business sphere in particular are very much concerned of this development. For some smaller companies that rely on internet sales, the laws will make it impossible to continue their cross-border trade and they will have to abandon non-U.K. business.
According to the proposed laws by the E.U., a U.K. firm trading with the member states may have to comply with the domestic laws of all 27 countries. At present, only domestic rules are to be complied with while doing business with the member countries. The proposed set of rules will also affect financial and legal service providers.
If the proposed laws come into effect companies will find it difficult to meet the legal requirements of their own country and the laws of the recipient country. In present circumstances, companies selling goods and services to other EU countries are normally guided by the domestic rules.
Now UK business sphere speculating the fallout of the legal arrangements if the proposed laws come into force. The consumer contract legislation will be needed to be re-examined before getting in a legal conflict. The trade will be passed through conflicting legal regimes of each member countries and there will be close scrutiny of whether the trade processes meet the required standards. In few cases, companies will find it impossible to trade with some countries.
